MISCONCEPTION

I guess I've been laboring under a misconception?
I was a fairly regular follower of the blog that I am going to point you to in a minute, but I have a few points to bring to light first.
I like to comment one others blogs when there is something posted that moves me to.
I always try to keep my comments in the spirit of which the blog appears.
For example on serious blogs
I usualy leave serious well thought out comments.
On blogs that seem to be light hearted I try to comment in kind.
If I find something offensive, (hard to offend me. So rarely), I ignore and go away.
The freedom of speech thing dontcha know?
Well just recently it was pointed out in a not so subtle way that my comments were not welcome on one persons blog.
Unfortunate, because this is a blog that I always found fun, easy reading.

We had commented on each others posts, and always seemed to have an amicable relationship.
Well, yesterday there was a problem.
I jokingly pointed out that I was no longer included in the blog roll on this particular blog.
Not a big problem.
I don't do this to set records for popularity, and while I consider it an honor if others think enough of my blog to add me, I could realy care less about the number.
Maybe this is a status symbol to some.
Not me.
So, yesterday I receive an angry email from this individual.
I'm still debating weather or not to post it?
I was a little confused about what I had done to spur this great animosity.

I responded to the email explaining that I hadn't intended to create a problem, and apologizing for what was to me a simple misunderstanding.
I had a four hour drive today which gave me a lot of time to think about it.
So I get home and check my email expecting at least a go to hell email, apology not accepted, but nothing.
Then I went to the blog in question and, well read for yourself and decide.
THE CHIEF.

Unfortunately any comments that I left have been removed, so all there is is my word that I don't believe that I ever did anything to try and provoke this type of treatment.

So here's the email.

"Your "removal" was something that happened and I don't have any idea how. When I tried to put you back up there, my whole "link list" has now disappeared.

Just leave me the (censored) alone and quit bothering me with shit that is beyond my control. I don't control (censored) Blogger!

And now I've got a lot of work to do, just to satisfy you and your ego. I'm sorry I ever connected with you in the first place and if I never hear from you again, I don't really give a damn.

But, I do wish your son all the best and I pray he stays safe.

"You're removal", refers to my comment about noticing that I was no longer in his blog roll.
If the comment had been left in place,
you could better judge the spirit with which it was made.

It has never been my intention to offend anyone, or for that matter try to change opinions about anything, let alone my political beliefs.

Anyway, while I enjoy the interaction with the few of you who stop by. And I found this a great stress relief while Matt was deployed, this episode has quelled my enthusiasm for blogging.

I'm seriously considering shutting it down, and finding something else to occupy my mind.

neither does one cranky old man make a group bad to hang out with...

Actually I got dropped off The Chief's blogroll some time ago, when I mentioned it to him he brushed me off as badly as a 15 year old boy when he sees another girl with bigger tits. This is after almost a year of daily discourse with him and comments back and forth. I really think he's just having a hard time....but I do know that he's even gotten riled at Cookie, who is about his best bloggy friend. So, if'n I were you (and I was..more or less) just brush him off and keep on keeping on.

There are others of us who care about what you write and about Matt. and you know...just any old time you wanna comment on MY blog your comments will stick! ;-)

    How's Matt doing these days??

  2. Once again, Thanks MOM.
You know? What bothers me most is the thought of having to be careful about every little thing I write...
Because, even though it may not seem it, I am a caring individual.
While I can take a boat load of critisizm, and I love to poke fun at people, I would never do or write anything with the soul purpose of hurting someone.
A tongue lashing, and banishing from ones blog matters little to me. To think that I added to a fellow human beings problems bothers me deeply.
    Especialy an honorable, fellow veteran.

    Matt is well.
He was home for the weekend, and will be back for a couple of weeks at Christmas.

Hope all is well with you and Subvet, and the kids.

  4. I used to follow The Chief but gave up quite a while ago. I have confined myself to blogs that directly deal with the military and their families.

Your blog is and was a big help to me during our son's deployments to Iraq. You're blog is honest, straight forward and has a good sense of humor. As such, I will keep stopping by.

Hope Matt is recuperating well. Mark still has stress fractures in both legs but won't take a convalescence leave because he likes his job.

BTW, I still owe you a lobster dinner. :)

  5. oh crap, I lost my big old looong comment.

basically it said that I have hurt others and been hurt by others online. it's part of missing out on the nonverbal part of our communication. But as long as we do our very best to apologize when we know we've wronged someone and give them the benefit of the doubt when they hurt us that's all we can do.

Don't worry, those of us who "know" you know you're a good guy with a heart of gold.

  6. Thank you all!!!!!!!

And the lobster dinner is the only thing that keeps me going.

It's getting cheaper by the day.
$4.99 lb at one store this weekend.

    Funny thing Dad.
Matt hates being stuck in limbo. Since he has refused to re-up, they give him crap jobs to do.
He wants to be a part of the training for new guys, but so far he's been religated to company clerk type jobs, it seems.
I hope Mark makes sure to get the problems fixed before seperation.
Dealing with the VA can be a nightmare. As you well know.

    Mom, I appreciate your caring.

    And yours Mic.
Under the weirdness there's a great guy.
    Like the Grinch.

  7. I suppose that means you wouldn't like my gop blog either...

  8. Dad,

It's ironic that the cracked legs have turned out to be a good thing. He has been put on profile and taken off the line. He works in battalion HQ and is now the LandNCOIC...which means he is in charge of the ranges for the battalion.

He hasn't re-upped yet either (279 days to go) and is applying to get out 90 days early to go to college...if he can get in. So far his SGM, CO, and S3 Major are writing letters to the college.
    Go figure.

I was a company clerk so I know how Matt must feel. We are counting the months, days when we can join the 99 percenters...although I don't think we ever will.

  9. Mic,
Who said I did'nt like your blog?
    I said you were weird.
I did'nt say anything about your blog!!

    Dad,
I don't think anyone who has been to war, or has had a loved one go to war, will ever be the same.
It's not something you can forget.
just learn to be thankful you, and/or they made it out alive.
    And get on with life.

  10. oh, if I took personally all the shit I've had shoveled over me on my blog... I'd have jumped off a bridge along long long time ago. and the responses to some of my comments on others have lead to some amazingly foul and stupid twaddle...

Don't let anyone stop you blogging, IF THAT'S WHAT YOU WANT TO DO.

Why am I weird, because I don't live in New England?
Am I weird because I don't go on vacations to mexico?
    That why I'm weird?
Am I weird because I don't email you every day?
    That why I'm weird?
    I weird because i don't drink anymore?
My weird because I use male enhancement that lasts 24 hr, that make me weird?
Am I weird because I wanted to kill and flunked the physical, that make me weird to ya?
You want to tell me exactly why?
What, cat got your tongue, Rudy?

Just why the flip do you think I'm weird?

  13. Mic,
    I must have been mistaken.
It's quite clear now that their is nothing at all weird about you..
    You are perfectly normal.

  14. LAW,
    I know what you mean.
I don't mind a good disagreement from time to time. Or when I write something and someone takes exception to it.
But I don't fire off abusive personal emails about it.
And if I write a blog that is comical, I kind of expect to get some comical comments.
    Like Joe Pesci?
I just got sick of taking the kind of crap that the crank old fart spews, and thought I'd give him something to fume about.
    He's not playing.
    Thanks for stopping bye.
    Are all your guy's home?

  18. We never lost power.
I've got a lot of pictures, but I don't feel like posting.
We are at 1' below sea level in Keene. It's a prehistoric lake bed. Two miles in either direction is near total destruction.
Some people won't have power back for another week.
    What a mess.

  20. Mom,
    I'm not in the mood.
I'm saving my spirit for Christmas.
I've been so busy I just have'nt had the energy to post anything.
I've been by a few times, but your new layout while beautiful, is busy, and i can't figure out if I'm reading your post our not???
    Just a dumb New Englandah.

  21. I don't remember changing the layout. but I did add some info on the Thesaurus Thursday game above the posts. That may be confusing.

Just keep scrolling down till you see the date in black the new posts are on the left of your screen, blogroll on the right, like yours.

The posts are currently written in green and the date and title is in black. I promise not to change the colors before New Years. Then it'll just be color changes and not layout changes. :-)

Does that help?? Will you come by now??

    Have a Merry Christmas dearie.

  22. ¡Ay, caramba!

Well I will say this: we all took the great risk of (unintentionally) insulting someone out there in the WWW when we signed up to Blog.
But I say that as long as you are genuine and truthful, then who cares what other people think?
You can't please everyone and there's always going to be people who bring you down whether they mean to or not, but who cares? In all honesty, you don't want people like that surrounding your life anyway.
    So let him go.
If you apologized and he's still blowing it out of proportion, then he's got some of his own issues to work on I think.

Brush it off and save your energy for the people you care about and for those who really care about you.
    Stay, stay!
