I DID IT

I finally did it.
After months of comparing, and visiting stores, and comparing more, I bought the lap top.
I was truly stuck in the paralysis of analysis.
I'm not one to just spend close to a thousand dollars without feeling that I've done my homework.
In the end I settled on the HP dv6775us.
3 gigs of DDR2, 256MB dedicated memory, NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS processor, 250 Gig hard drive. I'll never fill it up. I have yet to experience the problems with Vista that others have complained of, but I do think I liked XP better, so far.
To put it plainly, I should have done this months ago.
I looked in the office door at the old machine last night, sitting there all lonely, and thought, "rest my old friend, you've earned it".
And to think that less than a week ago I was cursing it.....

I heard from Matt this morning.
He's doing well.
They were on a four day mission, and in the field while all the heavy crap was going down the beginning of last week.
He couldn't get in touch to let us know that he was ok.
What a relief to finally hear from him.
No matter how I try I can't put this war in the back of my mind for more than a few minutes at a time.
I'll sure be glad when they all come home.
If I live long enough to see it.

The Patriots won last night, which means that Mark, (The One Percenters blog) and I will be getting together for a Lobster dinner, at his expense.
Truth be known, I'll be happy just to meet him, shake his hand, and talk in person for a while.

  1. Dad--very glad Matt is doing well. Congrats on the laptop and the Pats victory. I loved the Giants over the Cowboys because....the Cowboys suck!

  3. Nigel,
    Thanks.
And, the Cowboys and I go back a long way.
The only team I dislike more is the dreaded Yankmes.

    Thank you Dad.
    I'm looking forward to July.
    And,
Young Mark sure has a talent for writing...
Any news about what their next assignment might be?
I don't like the goings on in Afganhistan!
    What a mess.

  5. The early "joe" rumors were that they were headed to Afghanistan but things have quieted down lately. He is currently on funeral detail as a rifleman. Alpha Co. was called out last week, so he's next. The 82nd will go anywhere in the U.S. for a funeral for any 82nd member who requests them.

  6. Dad,
I hope he gets a good long break before going anywhere.
They are a great and storied unit.
Someday he will be proud to say he's a member.
Send some warmth this way will ya.
We got a cold front coming at us from the midwest.

  7. Hey dad how are you?
I'm glad you like the new laptop...too cool!!

I really like my HP (well, you know about Vista)....

So good to hear about Matt! What do you plan on doing with the old one? Mine's just sitting here waiting for me to decide if I REALLY need all those files badly enough to get my IT friend to try and salvage them....

    have a great night!

  8. Hi MM,
I haven't really had a problem with Vista.
Karen was on the old one this morning and said it was running better than ever...
I suppose we'll get it tuned up and continue to use it.
    Great to hear from you...
How's the vet and the little ones?

  10. If you're any where even remotely close to my age, give or take 20 years, you won't live to see the day they all come home. Mc Cain told a reporter that he would fine with having our troops over there for another HUNDRED years! Forgive me for being negative, but this country voted for war the last election.
If the primary's are any indication of what's to come, they want more. Jesus himself won't be able to stop them this time.

  11. Well now anon it would seem that you have resigned yourself to the notion that John McCain is going to be our next President.
I don't think that will happen, and I'm relatively sure that I will live long enough to see our ( combat ) troups out of Iraq.
Thanks for stopping by, and sharing your thoughts.
